Kazakh President, Putin Hold Phone Talks on Moscow Visit Preparations
The Kremlin confirmed the discussion in a statement, noting that the leaders addressed current bilateral issues, particularly in connection with the Kazakh president’s Nov. 12 visit.
Kazakhstan’s presidential press service Akorda also issued a statement, emphasizing that the two leaders focused on preparations for the trip.
“The heads of state noted the particular importance of the upcoming talks in Moscow for the further development of the strategic partnership and allied relations between the two countries,” the readout said.
The statement added that Putin and Tokayev briefly touched on several aspects of the current global situation, without offering further details.
Tokayev had first announced the visit during the second Russia-Central Asia summit in Dushanbe on Oct. 9. The two leaders most recently met on the sidelines of the Oct. 10 Commonwealth of Independent States summit in the Tajik capital.
Describing the visit as significant, Tokayev previously said that Kazakhstan, a former Soviet republic, attaches "great importance" to the trip, which will be made at Putin’s invitation.
