President Xi Jinping Holds Talks with Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa

On the afternoon of August 18, President Xi Jinping held talks with Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa, who is on a state visit to China, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

President Xi pointed out that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Ecuador. No matter how the international landscape may evolve, China always views its relations with Ecuador from a strategic and long-term perspective, and will work with Ecuador to bring bilateral relations to new heights and better benefit the two peoples.

President Xi emphasized that China and Ecuador should consolidate political mutual trust and continue to understand and support each other on issues concerning each other’s core interests and major concerns. China respects and supports Ecuador’s efforts to explore a development path suited to its national conditions, and is ready to intensify exchanges between governments, legislatures, and political parties, increase experience-sharing on state governance, and join hands on the path toward the modernization of respective countries. The new progress achieved in China-Ecuador relations is not only the dividend of the bilateral free trade agreement, but also a testament to the potential of China’s enormous market. The two sides should find more synergy between their development strategies, implement cooperation projects under the Belt and Road Initiative, carry out cooperation in energy, mining, infrastructure and finance, explore cooperation in digital economy, green development, new energy, artificial intelligence and other areas, and continue to tap the potential of the free trade agreement so as to benefit more businesses and consumers. China will carry out cooperation with Ecuador in health, poverty alleviation, and disaster prevention and mitigation, and support Ecuador’s national development. The two sides should strengthen exchanges in education, culture, youth, sports and at the subnational level, facilitate people-to-people exchanges, and deepen friendship.

President Daniel Noboa stated that China is an important partner and friend of Ecuador, and that President Xi Jinping is a great leader. Through the joint efforts of both sides, relations between Ecuador and China have entered a new stage, bringing tangible benefits to both peoples. Ecuador is committed to deepening political mutual trust with China, supports China in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and respects China’s position on the Taiwan question. Ecuador attaches great importance to its cooperation with China and is ready to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in areas such as economy and trade, finance, mining, renewable energy, science and technology, and culture. It is willing to expand exports to China and welcomes more Chinese companies to invest and do business in the country to help improve local livelihood and advance national development.

The two presidents exchanged views on the situation in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). President Xi stressed that China always maintains that the region’s status as a zone of peace should not be undermined, that their path toward development and revitalization should not be interrupted, and that their right to independently choose cooperation partners should not be interfered with. China supports LAC countries in upholding independence to carry out international cooperation in light of their own national interests, and safeguard regional peace and stability. President Daniel Noboa noted that Ecuador attaches great importance to China’s position and role, and will always remain China’s good friend on the other side of the Pacific.

After the talks, the two presidents witnessed the signing of multiple cooperation documents in the areas of green industry, economy and trade, digital economy and people’s well-being.
